Happy Mother’s Day: Saranya Ponvannan to Rama, five most loved Ammas of Kollywood

Mother's Day is a special day for everyone to show their mother how grateful they are for having her in their lives. No one in this world can replace a mother and so, this character is an indispensible one when it comes to films or plays. Every plot may include or exclude a few characters here and there but a mother is irreplaceable even in a story. Today, we take a look at five most loved Ammas of Kollywood who are etched in our memories through the performances.

2/6

Saranya Ponvannan - Uncountable films

Saranya Ponavnnan is the first name that comes to the mind when we think of iconic mothers of Kollywood. She has played the mother on numerous occasions and has represented different types of mothers with her versatile performances. Her roles in the films 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu', 'Ram', 'Kalavani', 'Thenmerku Paruvakaatru', 'Velaiyilla Pattathari', and 'Kolamavu Kokila' are the best delivered acts by the star, and she has won several top awards for her those roles.

3/6

Nathiya - 'M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi'

Nathiya played the cool and caring mother of Jayam Ravi in the 2004 film 'M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi'. As a single parent, she is seen bringing up her son with a lot of love and care. She works hard to make sure that he gets all the freedom and facilities needed. This character of Nathiya was much loved by fans, and this Tamil remake of the Telugu film 'Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi' achieved great success.

4/6

Urvashi - 'Siva Manasula Sakthi'

There are different types of mothers. Some are very finicky while some are super chilled out. And while some seem like they are always reprimanding their kids, they tend to be just over caring who cannot see anything bad happening to their children. Urvashi's character in Jiiva's 'Siva Manasula Sakthi' is quite the same, and her role is one of her career-best performances. The 2009 romantic comedy film, which was directed by M Rajesh, gained positive reviews to become successful at the box office.

5/6

Raadhika - 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan'

Some mothers always praise their children among other kids and also care for their children very affectionately. Raadhika represented the same kind of mother to Vijay Sethupathi in 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan', which was directed by Vignesh Shivan. Raadhika played the role of a police officer in this 2015 film. She also works hard to try and make her son a police officer.

6/6

Rama - 'Madras'

Rama impressed the audience despite appearing in just a few scenes in the 2014 film 'Madras', which stars Karthi in the lead role. Rama's character as Karthi’s sensible and kind mother was much loved by many, and her scenes from the film did the rounds as memes on social media. Especially, the scenes of her finding a match for Karthi from the film were compared with real-life mothers.
