He is one of the most respected directors in the entire country and the ace director Mani Ratnam turns 57 today. The director who has films like Mouna Ragam, Agni Natchathiram, Naayagan, Thalapathi, Roja, Bombay, Alaipayuthey and Kannathil Muthamittal to his credit has a unique place in the industry, courtesy his subjects that crosses boundaries and appeal to the entire nation.
The credit for giving the first break to the Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman who made his film debut with Roja, also goes with Mani Ratnam.
