It looks like Gauthami will play the female lead to Kamal Haasan in Drishyam's Tamil remake. The director of the film, Jeethu Joseph, confirms that Gauthami is in consideration for the female lead. Gauthami was present during my discussions with Kamal and she has also expressed interest in doing the role. We are keen on casting her though we haven't firmed up things yet, explains the director. If Gauthami signs on the dotted line, the film will mark her return to the big screen after almost 15 years. Though her film Sasanam released in 2006, it was made in the 90s and her previous Tamil release before this film was Iniyavale in 1998. This will be the fifth time the actress is teaming up with Kamal. They had earlier acted together in
Aboorva Sagotharagal,
Thevar Magan,
Nammavar and
Kuruthipunal.
Meanwhile, Jeethu reveals that the shooting of the Tamil remake will start on July 15. While the leads were Malayali Christians in the original, the remake will see them as Tirunelveli Nadars. Sujith Vaassudev, who was part of the Malayalam version, is the cinematographer while Ghibran is likely to be the composer.
