Vijayakanth's mortal remains were kept for the public and celebrities to pay homage from December 28 afternoon to the next day evening. The last rites of Vijayakanth began from Island Grounds in Chennai around 4 PM on December 29, and his mortal remains were brought to the actor's party office in Koyambedu, Chennai. Vijayakanth's mortal remains were brought from Island Grounds to Koyambedu through a garland-decorated van, while fans and the public gave a grand farewell to the actor for the 20 long kilometers road singing a sad hymn.
Vijayakanth's mortal remains then reached the actor's party office (Cremation location) sailing the sea of tears, but fans and the public were denied entry into the office. With the presence of family members, cinema stars, politicians, police, and government officials, Vijayakanth's mortal remains were cremated with state honors. The 71-year-old legendary actor has started his journey towards space.
