I became a fan when... I think I have been a fan of Rajini sir ever since I was born. As a kid, I used to try imitating his style and gestures. There was something in him that impacted me strongly. I have very vivid memories of watching Rajadhi Raja and Raja Chinna Roja in theatres when I was eight years old. But my first major FDFS theatrical experience — as a teenager — was watching Baasha, followed by Muthu, in the same year. That was when I became a hardcore Superstar fan. Like many others, I feel that he has shaped me a lot through the dialogues and mannerisms in his films.When I feel low, I listen to Maatram Ondrudhaan Maradhadhu in his voice and that helps me acquire strength.
When I met my idol...I have been blessed to have met him a few times and I hope I get more such opportunities, because the experience you get while meeting him is new each time. I have felt a very positive and strong energy when he was around me — even when he was a few metres away. The most memorable meeting for me was at his home in Poes Garden. When I wanted to take a selfie, he immediately obliged. My hands were literally trembling and it was an overwhelming experience.
My crazy moments as a fan...Even today, I watch four straight shows on the first day of his film’s release. Getting up early in the morning and being part of the first show has been the norm since a long time. Watching the digitally remastered show of Baashha a couple of years ago was an unforgettable experience. I thoroughly enjoyed dancing in front of the screen while Naan Autokaaran song was played. As a tribute to him, I have published a coffee table book called Rajinism. Another tribute for him was recreating a Baasha FDFS scene in a web series that I produced. Among the crazy things I have done with regard to my love for him is my wedding. I met my wife Shravanthi on December 12 in 2012 and we got married on December 12 in 2013 because I
believed there’s no better day than Superstar’s birthday.
