Exclusive: Keyboard Sathya on his first theatre experience
It has been six months since shutters were pulled down on
How much are you missing out watching movies in theatres?Theatre is an experience. Not just from a musician‘s point of view, but as an avid theatre person, I love the experience- from booking my favourite seats to the movie, popcorn, post-movie conversations, etc. It is definitely a void but in the current scene.
What was the first time you watched a movie? My first ever movie in a theatre was with my whole family. We went to Jeans in the year 1998 when I was three years. With friends, I had gone to Chennaiyil Orunal with my school classmates in the year 2013.
Are you waiting for the theatres to reopen to go and watch a film?I’m waiting for the theatres to reopen to go and watch a film. Being a musician and an audiophile myself, nothing beats the experience of watching a movie in a theatre. That’s where I get to feel and experience every detail of every single person who has worked for a single goal - to make the movie a success.
What kind of precautions you will take before going to the theatre to watch a movie in the current situation? While masks, sanitiser and gloves are must it might hamper the experience of popcorn. It is a challenge but safety is the priority. Sanitised seats or a onetime use seat cover might be a good confidence boost and having two/ three-seat gaps will make the experience feel safer psychologically.
Watching movies that you have worked for in theatresI have been singing as a child artiste from the age of 7 in movies for music directors like Devi Sri Prasad anna, SA Rajkumar uncle, Ouseppachan sir, and Vidyasagar uncle, among others in films like Kalusukovalani, Dhool, Aaru, etc. I make it a point to watch the films as I am always excited to listen to my voice in full volume in the theatre. Apart from singing, I have also played keyboard for ECR movie, for Paul Jacob’s composition.
