For Kollywood fans, singer Sowmya Raoh is no newcomer. Shes sung popular tracks like Un Sirippinil... (Pachaikili Muthucharam), Macarena... (Khushi) and Yedho Seigirai... (Vaamanan). While shes been missing in action lately, the singer says this is because shes looking at a few collaborations with US singers. Everyone wants a piece of India today.
Indian music is very hot and everyone seems to know Bollywood music. Im currently working towards a couple of collaboration with singers from the US this year, reveals Sowmya.
While this might be her biggest agenda for the year, the singer says she likes working with the new composers.
Ive been singing for over a decade now. Ive worked with all sorts of composers. The younger ones today, be it Amit Trivedi in Hindi, Harikrishna in Kannada or Yuvan Shankar Raja in Tamil, are a lot cooler when it comes to their working styles, points out Sowmya.
Little wonder that shes worked with many of the gen next composers across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films in her career thus far.
She says that with a lot more new voices coming up in the industry, she believes survival and sustenance is hard. Earlier, there were a few singers and it was hard to break the monopoly. Today, there are hundreds of singers. To make a mark is difficult today. And sustenance in this age of insecurity is a challenge, she explains.
Sowmya continues, While AR Rahman began the trend of experimenting with different voices, today, it has become the norm rather than the exception.
Though, she feels that this doesnt mean that everyone remains a great singer. It is very easy to gain attention today. To sustain that and earn respect is the biggest challenge, signs off Sowmya.
