Directed by Mohan G and featuring
Richard Rishi in the lead, 'Draupathi 2' has become the talk of the town with the launch of its trailer. The movie also stars Rakhshana Indhusudhan, Natty Nataraaj,
Vela Ramamoorthy, among others. Based on supposedly lesser-known historical facts, the movie was previously set to hit the screens on January 23 but is now scheduled to release on January 15 in order to leverage the Pongal holiday. The new date has only increased the buzz around the film.
Trailer sets the historical context
Before the trailer starts, there is an introduction which reads that this film is based on a book called ‘Thiruvannamalaiyai Aanda Vallala Maharaja Varalaru’ written by Aaru Annal Kandar, therefore the story is closely based on documented articles. The trailer begins with Rakhshana Indhusudhan talking to the people, “She was born of fire, that 'Draupathi'. “Today I know why I was named after that flame.” This particular line indicates the fire that will provoke the emotions of the story along with the powerful lead actress.
Veera Simha Kadavarayan and the conflict
The entry of the protagonist follows, with Richard Rishi featuring as Veera Simha Kadavarayan. The presentation is followed by a title card reading, “An unending tremor caused by the Sultanates across the cultural landscape of Hindustan,” indicating the looming historical confrontation.
The Sultanate kings imposing their religious ideology on the Hindu people is depicted in the trailer. The representation of abrasive oppression and reactive measures to the Hindu population's dissent deepens the portrayal of the male kings. The battle of the two rival kings forms the focal point of the tale, as the trailer hints at an ultimate.

Women’s sacrifice as the central theme
Going beyond the themes of war and valour, 'Draupathi 2' heavily focuses on the sacrifices women had to make during those times of turmoil. The trailer states that while valour on the battlefield is commendable, so too is the sacrifice of women. This is rather beautifully captured in one of the dialogues in the trailer: “It is not valour alone that deserves praise… the sacrifice of women does too.” With historical references, conflict, rebellion, and sacrifice, the trailer makes you sit up and take notice of 'Draupathi 2', a film which seems all set to make its mark on Pongal.
