With Vijay’s

Master

releasing on January 13, the expectation have sky rocketed about the way it’s going to revive the film industry. While the movie is getting released in four languages, even in North and Central India, too, shows will be held.
Though Tamil Nadu government had earlier allowed 100 % occupancy in theaters, yesterday, they revoked it citing court order and MHA letter. But the government has now allowed theatres to screen shows from 1am, i.e., round the clock, screening, in the neighbouring state, Kerala, things are different. While theatre occupancy is capped at 50%, shows can be held from 9am to 9pm, which the distributors of Vijay’s movie in the state feel will impact its collections in Kerala. Moreover, the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce has decided to keep theatres shut as their demands have not been met by the Government. It’s not known whether the government will announce sops like reduction in EB charges during the lock-down period and waiver of entertainment tax for theatres.

Vijay has a massive following in Kerala and according to sources his last release

Bigil

had collected 30 crore from the theatres, there. The distributors paid the money with GST in last January expecting the Lokesh Kanagarj directorial to release in April 2020. As the pandemic struck, theatres have been remaining closed till now, and many in the industry are hoping that a mass movie like Master with Vijay in the lead will bring crowd back to the theatres. However, till the news is published, neither the Chamber has not changed its decision nor the government has agreed to their demands.

In the meantime, the distributors have started promotions for the movie, hoping that the

Pinarayi

government will come to the rescue of theatre owners and Chamber will reopen the theatres and as planned, Master, can be screened from January 13.
