Director Perarasu on #800TheFilm: 'A movie should be watched as a creative work'

Filmmaker Perarasu was one of the few people from Kollywood who came out in support of Vijay Sethupathi on the controversial biopic on cricketer Muthiah Muralidaran. The Thirupaachi director says that he is not surprised that the project is getting dropped. He opens up, "This was expected, as makers of a project like this, which has crores of rupees at stake, wouldn’t want to take risk.I appreciate Muralidaran's decision owing to the pressure Vijay Sethupathi was facing from several quarters. But as a filmmaker, I can’t accept the reason for which it has been dropped. What if the makers had plans only to highlight Muralidaran’s cricket career?"
He avers that one should not protest against a movie without knowing the intention of its makers. Perarasu adds, "I can understand the protest if the makers had plans to showcase sensitive scenes involving the civil war. But without even knowing what a film is about, no one has the right to push for a ban on it. Every person will have positive and grey shades to him/her. A movie should be watched as a creative work. One should not mix it with politics."
