Dhanush's dreams come true

Dhanush explains why his character in Mayakkam Enna struck a chord with audiences.
Had he chased his real dreams, Dhanush would have been in a star hotel today, experimenting with dishes and exploring culinary delights. ���Yes, I wanted to be a chef,��� he reveals, ���But now, I���m an actor. While most people have a dream and chase it, it was my talent that identified me.Cinema was my calling and it identified me.���
His is a one-off case. The majority of today���s youngsters have a dream and try their best to chase it, as symbolised by Karthik Swaminathan in Mayakkam Enna. The lead character, a person aspiring to become a wildlife photographer, is someone many have related to.
Dhanush, needless to say, is more than satisfied with the kind of feedback he���s hearing about his character and the film. ���I am moved and touched that Mayakkam Enna has touched many people���s hearts and made them follow their dreams,��� he says, ���Not every movie has the power to do that. A lot of people identified with the lead character in the film and that���s perhaps why it clicked.���
Did his brother and filmmaker (Selvaraghavan) go soft on him? ���Oh no, not at all,��� he says, ���Over time, he���s developed a sort of respect for me and he lets me do a scene in my style.��� How has he changed since his Thullavatho Ilamai days? ���Well, he used to be aggressive back then, but now he���s calmed down a lot,��� he explains.
Richa���s character in the film (Yamini) has come in for a lot of praise from audiences. Ask him if Yamini is the ideal woman and Dhanush says, ���She���s the ideal person for a guy like Karthik Swaminathan.���
With his rendition of Oda Oda��� and Kadhal En Kadhal��� becoming extremely popular, is he also honing his singing skills? ���Well, I���m not taking myself seriously as a singer,��� he signs off.
