TOI gets talking to director Subramania Shiva on Seedan. After thala biriyani, its time to taste some
Dhanush jangiri. Yes, Dhanush plays the role of a cook in Subramania Shivas forthcoming film, Seedan, and the actor, as part of his character, cooked some amazing food while shooting for the film. Needless to say, the entire cast and crew savoured them after the shooting got over.
Spilling the beans on Dhanushs role in his much-awaited film, Subramania Shiva tells TOI, Dhanush plays an extended cameo in the film and comes throughout the second half.
He plays a cook and is instrumental in bringing together the lead pair, played by newcomer Krishna and Ananya.
Shiva says Dhanush got so deep into the skin of the character that he used to come to the sets with different menu and kitchen tips. He read up a lot on cooking and observed chefs to get their body language right. He became an excellent cook by the time we finished shooting for the film, says Shiva.
Talking about a particular scene in the film, Shiva says, We were picturising Dhanushs intro song, Saravana samayal... for which he had to make jangiris. Even for cooks who have several years of experience, jangiris dont come out well in the first try. But, to our surprise, Dhanush got it right in the first take.
He adds, Every day after the shoot, wed eat what Dhanush had cooked for the day!
Seedan is the remake of the Malayalm hit Nandhanam. But Shiva says that hes made a lot of changes in the script. Ive taken just the plot from the original, and reworked it completely to accommodate Tamil sentiments, he insists.
Incidentally, Ranjith, who directed the original, was supposed to remake the film in Tamil as well. But Ranjith, for some reason, wasnt able to work on the project. The makers showed me the film after I had completed work on
Yogi. I thought this would be different from my previous film and agreed to do the remake.
Siva shot for almost 70 days in Palani, Thiruparagundram and Kerala. We also raised a set of a palatial house in a studio in Chennai where most of the film was canned, he informs and adds, This is also where Ananya met with an accident.
Revealing details, he says, We were picturising a song on Ananya when a pillar fell on her head. We were all startled, but Ananya asked us to continue shooting. She finished the days schedule for us and then rushed to the hospital. Weve retained the scene where the pillar falls in the film.
