Conjuring Kannappan will be funny and scary: Sathish
Actor Sathish is all excited about Conjuring Kannappan, in which he plays the lead. The film, which releases today, is directed by Selvin R Xavier, a debutant. “I’ve known Selvin from when he was an assistant director on a film that we had worked on. We’d lost touch for a while, and a common friend told me that he had a terrific story. I knew right after his narration that this was something new... both funny and scary, which, I loved as a lover of horror films,” starts off the actor.
Though he plays the hero, Sathish says the characterisation will be relatable. “It required me to do things that audiences will feel realistic. The character’s family, including his mom, dad and uncle, get trapped in this scary world, and he has to show concern for their safety and also ensure that he saves himself from the danger,” he says.
While Tamil cinema has its fair share of horror comedies, this one will be unique, states the actor. “In most horror films, characters will get trapped in a place from which they can walk away if they chose to. But here, it’s a world from where there seems to be no exit. The characters cannot even afford to sleep as they will get transported to a pei veedu if they doze off. The travails that we undergo in our efforts to not fall asleep will be so much fun for audiences,” he elaborates.
He credits producer Kalpathi Aghoram for turning this project into a noteworthy one. “He was attracted instantly by the one-line a character gets trapped in a pei veedu in his sleep after a dreamcatcher falls in his hands, and whatever happens there will have repercussions in the real world as well. We already had Saranya Ponvannan and Anandaraj in mind, and Aghoram sir actually expanded the scale of the project by getting actors like Regina Cassandra, Nasser, VTV Ganesh and Redin Kingsley on board. He also felt this film needed a composer of Yuvan’s stature and signed him on,” says the actor.
