Colour me yellow? Not!
Kaala director Pa Ranjith had pro duced the play Manjal, along with Jai Bhim Mandram, which was staged in the city on June 30. The play, written by Ranjith's assistant, Jeyarani, and directed by Srijit Sundaram, has a song campaign by Niro Prabhakaran, who is the composer of the upcoming film Yaagan.
Niro says that it was through his friend Parthiban, who is working with director Ram, that he came to know of the play.He decided to take it up because it was for a social cause. Interestingly, he reveals that he did not know that Ranjith was behind the production when he took on the project.
“The play questions the practice of manual scavenging. When automation has been introduced in every field, `why should a fellow human clean up other people's shit', is what the play asks. It hits out at the politics behind the whole thing,“ informs Niro. For the song, which had a theme based on the colour yellow, Niro says he used music that was distinctly Chennai. “It had a local flavour with rap portions, like the songs in Ranjith's Madras,“ he adds.
On the film front, the composer says that he is in talks for two projects, even as he is awaiting the release of Yaagan.
