Chennai High Court postpones final hearing in Dhanush-Nayanthara Rs 10 crore dispute over wedding documentary
The Chennai High Court has postponed the final hearing of the lawsuit filed by actor Dhanush's production company, Wunderbar Films, against actress Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. The case revolves around the alleged unauthorized use of visuals from the film 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan' in the couple's wedding documentary, which premiered on Netflix. Wunderbar Films is seeking Rs 10 crore in damages, and the court has now scheduled the final hearing for April 9.
According to News 18, during the recent hearing, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy reviewed the arguments presented by both sides and decided to postpone the final hearing. The court emphasized the need for a detailed examination of the claims and evidence before delivering a verdict. The case has now been adjourned to April 9. As the legal battle continues, the dispute highlights the broader issue of intellectual property rights in the film industry and the importance of securing proper permissions before using creative content in personal or commercial projects.
The controversy began after the release of Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan's wedding documentary, which featured footage and songs from 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan', a film directed by Vignesh Shivan and produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films. Claiming that these visuals were used without permission, Dhanush issued a legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore in compensation. The production company also sought an injunction to prevent the documentary's release, arguing that the inclusion of these visuals violated intellectual property rights.
In response to the legal notice, Nayanthara released a statement accusing Dhanush of leveling multiple baseless allegations. Her statement stirred up a major controversy within the film industry, with discussions arising about creative rights and the personal dynamics between the involved parties. The dispute has added another layer of complexity to their relationship, as Dhanush and Nayanthara previously shared a professional rapport, having worked together on multiple projects.
