All is not well with team Bogan as the director of the film
Lakshman is now facing plagiarism charges. Cinematographer-turned-director Antony, who has done the camera work for the yet-to-be released Asurakulam, claims that the story of Bogan is his. In February, he filed a case in the High Court against the films team. Yesterday, he even filed a complaint in Commissioner Office about the story theft and how the producers of the film are threatening him with goondas.
Talking to us about the issue, Antony says, I believe that my story has been leaked through one of my assistants. I filed a complaint with the South Indian Film Writers Association even before they had begun shooting for the film. They even proved that Bogan is my story. But later, the producer of the film, Isari Ganesan came forward to strike a deal with me, offering to pay me a huge amount of `10 lakh. I, obviously, didnt agree. I even have a recording on what they spoke and how they forced me to accept the deal. I will definitely prove it in the court.
Ask him if any action has been taken yet and he says, South Indian Film Writers Association (SIFWA) advised me to take up the case in the court, but till now, I havent heard anything from them.
Whats worse is that Isari Ganesans team is now threatening and attacking me with goondas, asking me to withdraw the case. I heard that the makers of Bogan are planning to release the film in December. This is really upsetting.
When contacted, director Lakshman completely denies the charges against him, saying that money is the ultimate motive behind this. I am flooded with calls now for no reason. I dont even know who he is. I just met him once in SIFWA when he filed a complaint against me. His only motive is to grab money from us. Can he prove that his screenplay is similar to mine? I dont understand on what basis he claims that Bogan is his story. His case didnt stand in the court as he didnt have enough proof. In fact, the film is inspired from many Hollywood films and thats what SIFWA said, too, he says.
Lakshman says that the film revolves around the life of a saint, Bogan. He says, I worked on the script for almost three years and have been shooting day and night without even meeting my family. How can someone throw plagiarism charges on us just like that? Will any producer give a film to me that has plagiarised content? Also, my film is based on a generic topic. Will Shankar file a plagiarism case if we do a film on robots? I dont understand the mentality of these people. All they need is money. In fact, one of his assistants called me yesterday saying that Antony does many weird things and advised me not to break my head over this.
