Blockbuster Tamil movies with NO SONGS

Tamil movie songs have a separate fan base. Statistics and trends reportedly prove that even if the movie is not a successful hit, the songs from the film keep things lively and give the movie a boost. Though the concept of songs in movies is very common in Indian films, depending on the storyline and plot of the movie, songs are sometimes considered a hindrance. Here are a few critically acclaimed Tamil movies that were box office hits though they did not have any songs in them.

Starring Vishal and Prasanna, the movie was released in 2017. Directed by Mysskin, the film was an action thriller and the story revolved around the detective who helps in a police investigation. The movie’s concept was based on the famous detective story of Sherlock Holmes. The film was a sleeper hit and the background score for the movie was composed by Aroll Corelli. The movie did not have any songs in it.

Starring Nagarjuna Akkineni and Prakash Raj, ‘Payanam’ was released in 2011. Directed by Radha Mohan, the story of the movie was based on a flight hijack incident. The film was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu and it was a box office hit. The background score of the movie was done by Pravin Mani and the film did not have any songs in it.

Featuring Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal, the movie was released in 2009. Directed by debutant Chakri Toleti, the movie was a remake of the Hindi film ‘Wednesday’. The movie was later dubbed and released in Malayalam as well. The film was a blockbuster hit. The music was composed by Shruti Haasan, however, the film had no songs!

Directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, the film was released in 2019. The movie had Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Fahadh Faasil, Ramya Krishnan and Mysskin in the lead roles. The film was dark humour and it was a blockbuster hit. The story of the movie focuses on four different characters and their life happenings in a parallel timeline. The music for the movie was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and it had no songs in it.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film featured Karthi in the lead role. The movie was released in 2019 and it was critically acclaimed. The film had a background score and over 17 tracks in it but did not have even a single song. The music for the movie was composed by Sam CS.
