Bharath’s 2019 film, Kaalidas, is set to have a sequel. The film, titled Kaalidas 2, will be helmed by Sri Senthil, who also directed the first part. The filmmaker tells us that while the first film had elements of drama and thriller, this one would be more of an action thriller.
Senthil shares, “It is not an actual sequel but would rather be a continuation of the Kaalidas universe. The characters from the first part will appear in this film, but it will have a different story.”
“Crimes can either be organised or emotional. You can predict whether any organised crimes are going to happen and stop them. But you cannot predict emotional crimes. The Kaalidas franchise is based on emotional crimes,” he further elaborates.
He also informs us that the film’s two central characters will be played by actors Bharath and Ajay Karthi. About reuniting with the former, the filmmaker shares, “We were planning to do another movie after Kaalidas, but that film did not work out, and COVID also hit us. An important reason why we thought of a sequel is because there were a lot of stories that we wanted to tell with Bharath’s character from the first part.”
Clarifying that he hasn’t incorporated action into the film just because it’s trendy to do so, the director states, “We didn’t try to follow a trend as such. The story requires and demands a little bit of action. The film is a police thriller and it will be more action-driven compared to the previous film. But it is not an out-and-out action film.”
