Balaji Murugadoss will be playing a sprinter in his next, titled Runner. Helming the sports drama is debutant director Chidambaram A Anbazhagan, who tells us, “The film is about a middle-class boy from Chennai who wishes to get a medal for India at the Olympics.”
The filmmaker, who previously worked with director Kathir, says that the story is based on the life of an international track athlete, and adds, “Balaji has been dedicated in his preparations to portray a sprinter. He has been practising running for six months with national and international coaches, and we will be filming with real track athletes.”
The film will go on floors at the end of April, informs Chidambaram, who shares, “We want to realistically portray a runner’s life. Our sports films usually show other aspects of the protagonist’s life way more than his training. But the Olympic athletes I spoke to said the track was their life and that they hardly get to spend time with friends and family.”
