The man behind some memorable numbers in hit films like Thalaivasal and Amaravathi, Bala Barathy, is now back after a hiatus. The composer is all set to make a comeback with Selvaas Naanga. Im really glad to be making my comeback with director Selvaa. Were very comfortable with each other and I know what he expects from his crew. Working on this film was a breeze, begins Bala Barathy.
The composer has joined hands with Selvaa after 16 years for a film thats set in the 1980s.
Despite not having worked together for years, Bala maintains that the two remained good friends. Several people used to ask me why Selvaa and I stopped working together as our combination had worked wonders on the big screen. But I guess our priorities had changed after a while. Even then, we had no misunderstandings and always remained in touch. We are very good friends, he insists.
He adds, Selvaa approached me one day and said that hes working on a film that will be set in two different periods. I had worked in the industry during the late 80s and early 90s and knew the pulse of the youngsters of that time. Since the films set in 1985, Selvaa said Id do justice to the film and its music.
Bala says the songs will have the feel of the 80s music. The orchestration and symphony will remind the listeners of the golden age of cine music and take them on a nostalgic trip. Theres a sprightly song like the Aatha aathorama... number. Theres also a romantic duet, a pathos number and a gaana song in the album. Ive recorded the songs with some young singers Karthik, Vijay Yesudas, Haricharan and Chinmayi. I was surprised at the way they adapted themselves to the 80s style, he smiles.
He adds, Just like how Selvaa has cast only newcomers in the lead in the film, Ive also recorded a number only with newcomers Priya, Gayathri, Anita Suresh, Solar Sai and Shailaja.
Apart from Naanga, Bala has Oothari, an untitled film with Saravanan and a Singapore film in hand. Im choosy about signing projects. Before signing Naanga, I did just a couple of films including Saasanam and also did the re-recording for Mercury Pookkal and Golmaal. And now, Im busy with composing for private albums. Ill be releasing an album, Parithiye Barathiye, in Tamil Nadu, Europe, Australia and the US. There are so many things other than films that keep me going, he signs off.
