Director Arun Vaidyanathans debut flick Achchamundu! Achchamundu! (AA), starring
Prasanna,
Sneha and John Shea in the lead, has done him proud.
The film, which was based on paedophillia, apart from being screened at several international film festivals, also fetched the director awards. And the recent one is the title Iyakkunar Ilaval that has been bestowed upon him by the New Jersey Tamil Sangam.
Though Arun says hes happy to have won an award, he adds, Whenever I read that some of the actors are so particular about using their titles, I laugh out loud.
Ive even shared few jokes with my good friend Prasanna. Im not going to stress this title on me. At the same time, I cant say no to this act of kindness and its definitely an exciting moment in my career. New Jersey is my second home and I have spent a decade of my lifetime there. Artists need recognition and thats the one thing which can keep them going.
Talking about his AA, Arun says, Sometimes, I used to think I should have done AA as my third or fourth film. It was done and released with a lot of struggle during one of the tougher times in Tamil cinema. But thankfully, the media welcomed the film. Considering I have no godfather in the industry and no one in my family knows anything about the industry, I think AA was the right choice. Because, this little film made a huge impact in terms of content and execution from a state which releases close to 150 films per year. All said and done, AA is my golden baby and Im so glad that I made the film with lots of conviction. That people still remember the film and honour it with awards is a sign that good films will be recognised regardless of time.
But now, Arun says he has moved on in life. Hes completed work for his next film. Ive finished an exciting adventure script and if everything goes well, it should be officially announced soon. When I finished the script, I thought these kind of films will never be made back home. But to my surprise, one big corporate company liked it very much. The film is targeted towards family audiences, especially kids. It will be a fun ride and I cant wait to get on the floor with this one. I am also working on an indie horror film in English and a couple of other ideas, he signs of.
