Aval Appadithan, a biopic on south siren Silk Smitha

Bollywood actess Vidya Balan had essayed a role inspired from the life of south siren Silk Smitha in 'The Dirty Picture', which hit the screen in 2011. Now, the Tamil film industry is set to have its own biopic of the most popular South Indian actress noted for her erotic roles. Titled '

', the biopic will be directed by

KS Manikandan

of 'Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya' fame.

Gayathri Films’ Chithra Lakshmanan and Murali Cine Arts H Murali are planning to do a biopic on late actress Silk Smitha. The shooting of the biopic is planned to kick start in November.

Director Manikandan says the reason for Silk's success can be attributed to her eyes which told so many tales. "Her hotness quotient too has been unmatched till date. And to play her character, we are trying to get the right person who can do justice to the role,"
says Manikandan.

'Aval Appadithan' will have interesting and in-depth details of the actress's life which saw various twists and turns.

Born Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati, Silk Smitha was not just a glamour doll for

Kollywood

but someone who created a niche for herself. Celluloid till date has not seen a replacement for the sultry siren who rocked south Indian film industries, but the young generation may not know about the woman who was unapologetically sexy and dared to challenge social hypocrisies.

Silk Smitha was the most sought after actress by many directors and producers in the film industry during the 80s and early 90s. Distributors and movie-makers wanted to cast the sultry siren so that they could reap financial dividends and also make use of her glamour quotient as she was one of the biggest crowd pullers during her peak period.
