The Chennai offspinner enacted a mode of dismissal similar to what the actor did in the celebrity cricket league recently
Chennai offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin did something that Tamil actor Vikraanth tried in the finals of the recentlyconcluded celebrity cricket tournament he mankaded Sri Lankan batsman Thirimanne who was short of his crease in the nonstrikers end.

However, captain Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar intervened and after discussing with the umpires, withdrew the appeal.
The cricketing fraternity has divided opinion on this mode of dismissal while some state that by withdrawing the appeal, the Indian cricketers upheld the spirit of the game, others feel that the team was fully within the rules of the game to seek a run out.
When CT contacted Jiiva, who was in the thick of things during the controversial dismissal at the celebrity cricket finals against the Karnataka team, he said, What he (Vikraanth) did for the Chennai team was perfectly within the rules of the game. He had tried such similar dismissals in the presence of Ranji cricketers during a couple of our practice matches and they clearly stated that it was in the rule book. Anyway, in the case of Vikranths dismissal, it might not have mattered much as it was the last ball of the match.
WHY MANKADED? When Indian cricketer Vinoo Mankad ran out non-striker Bill Brown in the Sydney Test in 1947-48, there was a big uproar in the cricketing world and the Australian press. That was when the term Mankaded was coined. It sticks on till date.
