It was announced recently that
Ashok Selvan and
Priya Bhavani Shankar
would be teaming up for the first time for a film. While the project was rumoured to be a remake of a Malayalam film, the film’s director,
Sumanth Radhakrishnan, clarifies that it is a fresh script. He says, “The film is a comedy entertainer, set in a hostel. Ashok plays a final-year student, while Priya plays his love interest.”
Incidentally, Sumanth was doing Sugar with Simran and Trisha, but since it was being shot on a large-scale, with a lot of CG work, he took some time off from the film. “I had time to work on another script in that phase and that’s how this film happened. After watching Oh My Kadavule, I felt Ashok would be apt for the part and narrated him the one-liner. He liked it, and later, read the final script which I sent,” he says, and adds, “Priya, too, was my first choice. I wanted someone with a girl-next-door appeal and she is just that. It will be a fresh pairing, too.”
The film will also feature Nasser, Munishkanth, Kalakka Povathu Yaaru fame Yogi and Ravi Maria, with music by Bobo Sashi. “We are also planning to cast more members from the Kalakka Povathu Yaaru team. We will begin shooting from January 5, and are presently erecting a huge hostel set in Chennai,” informs the director.
