As the iconic Prarthana shuts down, list of Tamil movies shot there!

Watching movies in theatres has been a culture in itself and it is one of the most practiced forms in the Tamil film industry. While the entire city of Chennai followed the ticket policy, the Prarthana was the first drive-in place which allowed movie audiences to watch film in the comfort of their car and celebrated it like a picnic. However, it has now come to an end as the iconic and heritage theatre of Chennai is shutting down. Let's look at the list of Tamil movies shot in that theatre.

The theatre is well known for Rajinikanht's fight sequence from the film 'Sivaji'. Directed by Shankar, Sivaji stars Rajinikanth and Shriya in lead roles and the movie was released in 2007. The movie has a fight sequence in the Prarthana theatre and the scene goes on like - Shriya and Rajinikanth after their wedding come to the theatre to watch the film and are spotted by one of the henchmen.

Directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, 'Kadhala Kadhala' starred Kamal Haasan, Prabhu Deva, Rambha, Soundarya, MS Vishwanath among others. The film had a love sequence shot here in the theatre. The scene shot here was one of the important and twisting points of the film's story.

Directed by Selvaraghavan, the movie stars Dhanush and Sonia Agarwal in lead roles. The movie was released in 2003. The film had a sequence shot here when Dhanush worked as a part time cleaner at the open air theatre to support his college education.

Starring Vinoth and Sonali Kulkarni, 'May Madham' was directed by Venus Balu. The movie was released in 1994 and a song sequence from the film was shot in Prarthana drive-in theatre. The song 'Madrasai Suthi Paaka Poren' has the famous theatre featuring in a scene.
