Along with many other Indian film fraternities, director Mani Ratnam was invited to join the Oscar committee this year. Reportedly, over 398 artists from all over the world have been requested by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to join as a member. Mani Ratnam is the first Tamil director to have the prestigious opportunity to join the Oscar committee.
Taking to Twitter, Oscar Award winner, AR Rahman congratulated the director. His post read, "Congratulations #Manirathnam sir for becoming a member of the Academy. Oscar. PS 1 & 2, Dil see, Roja, Bombay and many more! Welcome to the club."
