The director shared that he once had a word with actor Vijay about the possible sequel before the latter made his political debut.

Here's what AR Murugadoss said about the 'Thuppakki' sequel

In an interview with Galatta Plus, AR Murugadoss stated that he once had a conversation with Thalapathy Vijay about a sequel to his 2012 film, 'Thuppakki'. The filmmaker expressed that since the actor has already entered politics, the sequel would not happen. The director said, "Only Vijay sir can do it." His comment on the sequel comes after he gave a statement to Valai Pechu in which he shared that 'Thuppakki' concluded with the possibility of a sequel.

Earlier, in an interview with Velai Pechu, the filmmaker shared that the story of 'Sikandar' was an emotional one; however, he couldn't "execute it well." He also added that Salman Khan would turn up on the set by 8 PM. Sharing the difficulties he faced, the filmmaker added that they had to shoot even day scenes in the night. He said, "We are used to shooting right from early mornings, but that's not how things work there (in Bollywood).

The film stars Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. It also featured Kajal Aggarwal and Jayaram. Vidyut Jammwal played the role of an antagonist in the movie. The film raked in Rs 130 crore at the box office.Now, Murugadoss will reunite with Vidyut in 'Madharaasi.' It will hit theaters on September 5, 2025. On the other hand, Vijay's last film, 'Jana Nayagan,' with director H. Vinoth, is slated for a Pongal 2026 release in theaters.
