When a bunch of Dhanush fans couldnt get tickets for the stars second Bollywood outing, Shamitabh, they made the Coimbatore version of his chartbuster Danga Maari. Not only were they showered with praises from across the quarters, the actor himself praised their effort. Now that Dhanushs next film Maari has hit screens, it was only natural that the team comes up with the Coimbatore version of the film. The video is conceptualized and performed by Praveen Nandagopal & directed by Vinoth Kamplin and Sherry Bosco.
Kishore Scarlet has handled the cinematography & Vinoth Sridhar and Pushparaj Sebastin are in charge of editing.
The truth is that this time around; we were not planning to do a Coimbatore version as it would tend to get repetitive. But when we met some people close to Dhanush, the first question they asked was where was the Coimbatore version of Maari? We mulled over the concept and finally decided to make one, says Praveen Nandagopal, one of the performers. However, we wanted this song to be a tad stylish. Thats why we chose two songs-
Donu Donu Donu- which is shot in a stylish manner at a coffee shop in the city and Maari Thara Local- to retain the flavour of the first Coimbatore version. The local number was shot in Siddhapudur and CMC Colony. We wrapped up the shoot in two days. Balaji Mohan, director of Maari, saw the version and liked it. Even actor-comedian Robo Shankar loved our work.
When asked if Dhanush had seen the version yet, he said, Not yet! Last time when he had seen Danga Maari and posted about it on his micro-blogging page, hits increased manifold. We are hoping for a similar response this time as well. This is yet another tribute to one of our favourite actors, Dhanush, says Praveen.
