Popular television host of the ’90s and early 2000s,

Anandha Kannan

has passed away. He was suffering from bile duct cancer. The 48-year-old’s sudden demise has come as a shock to his fans and the members of the film fraternity.

Talking about how he was a trendsetter among anchors in the ’90s, popular anchor Dhivyadarshini tells us, “Though I was not very close to him, he always came across to me as a warm person. I have had quite a few conversations with him. He was always sweet and kind, and would always be seen with a smile. He was a perfect gentleman. He was good and unique at his work. He was among those anchors who paved the way for anchors becoming stars. He was one of the favourite anchors of ’90s kids.”

Director Venkat Prabhu, who worked with him in his film Saroja, was one of the first to reveal the shocking news. He wrote on his social media page, “A great friend a great human is no more!! #RIPanandakannan my deepest condolences (sic).”

The Singapore native had a huge fan base back in ’90s for his unique hosting skills and presentation. Anand began his career in Singapore and then moved to Chennai and became a successful video jockey. He had the audience eating out of his hands with his shows. He then went on to test waters in acting as well with films like Mullum

Malarum

and Adhisaya Ulagam.
