Ameer’s emotional thriller happens over one night
Director-turned-actor Ameer says that his upcoming film Maayavalai, which also stars Sanchita Shetty and Sathya in the lead roles, will be an emotional thriller. “I usually work on and direct films that are rooted in the village milieu, but this marks the first time I’m acting in a city-based story that revolves around events that happen in a single night; the story starts by night and concludes the following morning,” says Ameer.
The film is being directed by Ramesh Balakrishnan, with whom Ameer shares a friendship of almost 25 years. The actor-director says that the main challenges they faced were not physical but rather related to the team shooting through the night while trying to keep themselves fresh. “Our eyes would get swollen by around 6am in the morning due to the extended night shoots. Then there are processes, like police permission. For instance, to film a scene at a tollgate, we have to pay around ₹60K,” he elaborates.
The film’s music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
