'Amaran' got clearance from Ministry of Defence, Rajkumar Periyasamy hits back at controversies

'Amaran' based on the life of the late Major Mukund Varadharajan from Tamil Nadu, was released for Diwali. Directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy, the film starred Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles and received a warm reception from fans. However, it also faced criticism, particularly regarding the portrayal of Mukund Varadharajan’s identity, with some claiming it was hidden in the film. Now, in a recent interaction with the media, director Rajkumar Periyasamy cleared that the film had received approval from the Ministry of Defence and ADGP as early as October 1 and that military-related films require such consent before they can be released.

Rajkumar Periyasamy further clarified that the film accurately represented various battle cries, such as the Madras Regiment's "Veera Matharasi," and other military slogans, stressing that changing them would have been incorrect. The proficient director also made it clear that 'Amaran' is not a reflection of his personal political views, stating that as a director, he is responsible for ensuring that the film was made with social responsibility in mind and follows ethical standards. He emphasized that the story was told with respect, and he believes the film adheres to these values. Rajkumar Periyasamy also added that he can't answer questions of everyone as they are raised from their perspective, and asked questionnaires to fact check with 'Google' before raising those.

Amidst controversies and social media debates, 'Amaran' is heading strongly at the box office, and the film earning well surpassing Rs 200 crore in 10 days. From India the movie has now crossed Rs 164 crores and coming to Telugu occupancy rates, ‘Amaran’ has morning shows at 15.93 percent, afternoon shows at 23.12 percent, evening shows at 19.59 percent, and night shows at 20.94 percent.
