#AllThingsLove: We celebrate love every day in the smallest of things: Ganesh and Nisha
Ganesh Venkatram and Nisha’s journey as a
So, what’s your
Ganesh: We met on the set of a TV show and it soon turned into a beautiful friendship. As friends, we understood each other a lot, knew each other’s likes and dislikes, cared a lot for each other and developed a bond. But slowly, I started falling in love with her. At one point, I realised she was my soulmate. It was in December when the holiday spirit was pretty high. We decided to drive to ECR, grab lunch and generally spend time together. On our way, we spotted a church that was beautifully decorated and lit up… We went in; there was no one else inside. We knelt down to pray and I was literally having a moment with God. I was waiting for the right time to tell her and something inside me told me that this was the moment. I had so much clarity while I was praying and was confident that she was the girl I would be spending my life with. And that’s when I decided to tell her.
Nisha: Before he even proposed, I had my doubts (smiles). When I got into the car, he played Ennavale Adi Ennavale — so unlike him. I began noticing the small things he was doing throughout that day and somewhere, felt that he likes me. When I was praying, I was asking God if he was the right guy. And moments later, Ganesh confessed his love and was answering all the questions I had asked God. It was magical, emotional… and I started crying out of sheer joy.
Ganesh: I freaked out when she teared up. Before committing to a woman, you need to commit to yourself. She was emotional and made me wait (laughs). But eventually, she said yes.
What is the one trait that you love in each other, and one that you don’t?Ganesh: Her sense of humour! As friends, I always found her to be rather quiet. But after we got into a relationship, she became quite naughty. It is important to see things in a light manner when we face problems and I saw that in her. However, I think she gets too emotional and moody at times.
Nisha: I really like his patience and he’s organised, too. But that’s something I don’t like at times, too. It depends on my mood (laughs).
What is the craziest thing you’ve done for each other?Ganesh: She is the queen of surprises and has surprised me so often when we were in a relationship. I just don’t know how to give surprises… let’s just say that I don’t have that talent (laughs). But I decided when I give one, it should be the mother of all surprises. So, I decided to do something big for our reception, which was held a day before the wedding. Along with John Britto’s group, I decided to do a flashmob proposal. I got on to the podium, walked back, to her surprise, and danced to a medley for eight minutes and proposed to her.
Nisha: That was indeed a big surprise, and it has inspired so many of our friends to do the same! But that’s about it… no more surprises after that (laughs)! As for me, I have done a lot, but I went a little extra for his birthday, the first one we celebrated after marriage. He is a morning person and wakes up at about 4am every day. Once he was up, I blindfolded him and drove him to the harbour. I’d gotten permission from the concerned department much earlier and took him out on a yacht. We witnessed the sunrise together and then cut cake there.
Which has been your most memorable Valentine’s Day?Nisha: He has never been with me for Valentine’s Day. He is always shooting at that time, and mostly, in remote locations. Even this year, he is out for a shoot. But we celebrate love every day in the smallest of things.
Ganesh: I guess that’s the only day we’re apart.
What does love mean to you?Nisha: Love is respect, treating your partner as equal and establishing trust. That’s what Ganesh made me feel and I love that about him.
Ganesh: Love means having a deep understating, friendship, and having a partnership for life. For me, a relationship has to be built on friendship. I keep telling Nisha that we shouldn’t forget we are the best of friends first. We should be able to discuss anything with each and I don’t want to trade that for anything else in life. And of course, if you love someone, you will respect them and treat them equally.
couple
might seem like just another friends-turned-lovers’ tale, but the two ensure it’s nothing less than a fairytale. The couple gets talking about how they got together, why friendship plays an important role in keeping two people together and more…love story
