In March 2022, it was announced that Vignesh Shivan would be directing a film featuring Ajith Kumar, and Anirudh would be composing music for this project, referred to as #AK62. There were even reports of Arvind Swami and Santhanam being roped in for the project, which was expected to go on floors post Pongal.
Now, it looks like Ajith and the production house have opted to put the project on the backburner, and are looking at working with another filmmaker for AK’s 62nd film. The buzz in K-Town is that they weren’t happy with Vignesh’s script. While Ajith had flown to London to discuss the new project, Vignesh Shivan, too, is currently in the city.
However, one source tells us, “Vignesh Shivan’s project needs to be made on a huge scale, and cannot be completed by Diwali. Ajith, on the other hand, is keen to have a Diwali release this year. So, the makers are looking to take it up at a later stage. Now, the head of the production house, Subaskaran, is directly talking to a few filmmakers to set up a quickie project, which will be #AK62.”
Interestingly, #Thalapathy67, Vijay’s upcoming multi-starrer with Logesh Kanagaraj, which is already on floors, is also eyeing a Diwali release! Ajith and Vijay’s films had only recently clashed at the box office during Pongal.
Meanwhile, even as the names of directors Atlee, Vishnu Varadhan and Magizh Thirumeni are doing the rounds on social media, our source tells us that reports of Atlee and Vishnu Varadhan being in talks is fake news. While Atlee and Vishnu are busy with their Bollywood commitments, Magizh, we hear, already has a finished script ready, which has put things in his favour. The Thadam filmmaker, we are told, has emerged as the frontrunner to helm this project, though a few more directors are also said to be in talks.
