Ajith Kumar thanks wife Shalini for holding the family together: 'The children hardly get to see me, I miss them as much as they miss me'
Amid the roar of race cars at the 24H endurance race in Barcelona, Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar took a quiet moment to reflect on the anchor of his life — his wife Shalini. In a recent interview, he expressed heartfelt gratitude for her unwavering support in managing the home and raising their children.
The actor revealed how parenting, especially with a daughter starting college and a young son adjusting to a new school, would be impossible without Shalini. “There are so many things that Shalini is handling. If not for her support, I wouldn’t be able to do all this. Looking after the home and children when I am away – it is not just sacrifice on my side. The children hardly get to see me, and I miss them as much as they miss me. These are the things that are never seen or understood. But when you love something so dearly, you have to make your sacrifices,” he told India Today.
Ajith also reflected on a viral moment earlier this year when he playfully placed a bindi on Shalini’s forehead during a temple visit, only for her to touch his feet in jest. “I would have to do the same after we reach home,” he had joked, highlighting the warmth and humour in their relationship.
The actor’s gratitude extends beyond the home to shared passions. Ajith spoke about racing and how Shalini has always been his constant support at events. “When I got married in 2002, I had just returned to racing. Shalini was there with me at every event. Then kids happened, responsibilities came, and she got busy. But she continues to follow motorsport. My son loves it too – he’s started go-karting, but not seriously yet. I’ll give him time to decide if he really wants to pursue it,” he said.
Concluding the conversation, Ajith shared his philosophy as a parent and a husband: “Be it films or racing, I would not want to force my views on them. I want them to come on their own and support them in every way possible.” On the work front, Ajith was last seen in 'Good Bad Ugly'.
