The Tamil Film Active Producers Association (TFAPA) has raised concerns over the impact of early reviews and public commentary on newly released films, particularly on social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). With the increasing influence of online reviewers and YouTubers, TFAPA has argued that these reviews, often posted immediately after a film's release, negatively affect box office performance and damage the reputation of films and their creators. TFAPA has filed a written petition in the Madras High Court, urging the government to impose a three-day ban on movie reviews across social media platforms following a film's theatrical release. The association contends that this measure would provide films with an initial period free from potentially damaging commentary, allowing audiences to form unbiased opinions.

Earlier, in a post shared on X, TFAPA highlighted that several films released this year suffered financial losses due to negative reviews posted by YouTubers and reviewers. They noted that such actions have severely impacted producers and accused some reviewers of engaging in personal attacks on directors and actors in their videos.

Theatre owners have also weighed in on the issue, proposing a ban on YouTubers entering cinema halls to curb the immediate release of reviews. This collaborative effort between producers and theatre owners underscores the growing tension between the film industry and social media influencers, as the industry seeks to safeguard its interests against the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
