Actors and Actresses who were the original choice for the film, but changed later

It is not possible for all actors and actresses to do the films that they come across or that they are offered. From choosing a film based on the script or storyline to adapting the timeline of the shooting, it is a huge process for them to choose the film. There have been instances where an actor and actress sign up for the film and even begins shooting, but later walks out of it because of creative differences. As such, the directors create the film with an idea of making a particular star to be the lead role but that does not happen due to the prior commitments. So here are a few examples of films that had actors and actresses who were originally chosen, but were swapped later.

Aadukalam featured Dhanush and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles. The role of the female lead was first offered to Shriya Saran but as the actress was busy with her other projects, she reportedly turned it down and then it was given to Taapsee Pannu – who made her debut in Tamil cinema then.

Raja Rani features Arya, Nayanthara, Jai and Nazriya. The movie makers wanted Sivakarthikeyan to play the role of Surya in the movie, but it was later finalised with Jai and the role that was played by Nazriya was initially offered to Priya Anand.

Thupaakki features Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. The role was initially offered to Priya Anand and the movie makers even reportedly tried to cast Sonam Kapoor but it finally went to Kajal Aggarwal.

Kochadaiyaan features Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. It was Deepika’s debut film in Tamil cinema. Initially the offer of the female lead was given to Anushka Shetty, but reportedly the actress turned it down and later the movie makers even approached Katrina Kaif but then the role was finally given to Deepika Padukone.

Mudhalvan features Arjun and Manisha Koirala. The male lead role of the movie was written for Rajinikanth reportedly, but as the actor could not commit, the movie makers then thought of Kamal Haasan and Vijay to play the role, but because of other film shootings, both the actors reportedly turned down the offer and it then went to Arjun. The female lead role was initially offered to Meena but then the actress reportedly turned it down as she was already shooting the film ‘Rhythm’ with Arjun.
