Devan Ekambaram, who stormed into the music scene way back in the late '90s has been keeping a low profile in the last few months. Quiz the singer about the reason and he responds with a grin, 'Well, I'm happily married, now. Marriage happened all of a sudden on October 18 last year and I was so tied up with the arrangements for the wedding that I had absolutely no time for anything else.
It was a perfect arranged match. Even before my wife Usha's proposal had come, I had made up my mind that it's high time I got married. I have been spending more time with her now, taking her out everywhere.'
Devan is now gradually getting busy on the work front. 'My latest offering is the number Facebook'from Hi Da. I had also sung in
Kalakalappu, Thuppakki, Vandhan Vendraan and
Kanden,' he says. It was not long ago Devan had ventured into music direction with Bale Pandiya and he even zeroed in on his second musical venture
Pattarai in quick succession. 'Unfortunately, the film got stalled and I'm waiting for the revival for the project. I'm keeping my fingers crossed,' he adds.
The singer, in the meantime, is busy performing at various concerts across the country and abroad. 'Yes, I'm back on stage as I love performing live. I'm part of a singing reality show on television as well and I'm doing a non-filmi English track for an album, which is being shot in Rajasthan.'
Devan had tested waters in front of the camera and even has a few films in his kitty. But the singer maintains that acting will have to take a backseat, now. 'I did
Parthiban Kanavu and
Jayam Kondaam because comedian Vivekh was part of those projects. I believe that unless you play a pivotal character that stays in the minds of the audience, there is point doing these small roles. This is my 14th year of playback singing and I want to evolve as a musician,' he says.
The singer, who was in the city recently, says, 'Coimbatore is like my second home and some of my biggest shows happened here. I would love to keep coming here.'
