Aalavandhan, perhaps, was the most expected
Kamal Haasan film in the beginning of this millennium. The film directed by
Suresh Krissna, however, bombed at the box office, leaving the crew and the fans of the actor disappointed. Though Kamal’s performances in the two characters won applause, the movie couldn’t connect with the audience then. The movie was later appreciated by several film buffs, and many had watched it repeatedly when it was screened in television.
Even a few of years ago, the film was exhibited at the Fantastic Fest in the US, and many went gaga over the making of a few scenes.
Interestingly, popular director Quentin Tarantino told once that the animated violence shown in Aalavandhan had inspired him in his Kill Bill. N Madhusudhanan had won the National Award for Best Special Effects and Kasi Viswanathan won the State Award for Best Editing. It was announced some time ago that the movie will be re-mastered and released again, something which fans received with so much of excitement. The latest we hear is that this will happen in id 2020, if everything goes well. A source also says that this will be a trimmed version. Raveena Tandon and Manisha Koirala played female leads in the movie which had music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
