Vijay was last seen on big screens in 'Varisu', and the film was released in theaters on the occasion of Pongal. 'Varisu' transformed into Vijay's highest-grossing film, and the film's producer officially confirmed that the film earned over Rs 300 crore. But a Kerala-based distributor has created a sensation by writing a letter to actor Vijay. In the letter, Roy Augustine reportedly said that 'Varisu' has incurred losses for him, and he asked the actor to return the additional advance amount he had paid for the film.

Vijay's 'Varisu' was said to have collected Rs 13 crores in Kerala, but Roy Augustine, the film's distributor, has stated that the film has earned only Rs 6.8 crores in the state. He has also alleged that Vijay evaded tax by not paying GST on the money he gave. A distributor claiming Vijay's 'Varisu' as a loss has created a lot of buzz in film circles, while fans doubt whether the makers boosted the film's box office collection. However, let's wait to see what Vijay's or 'Varisu's makers will do to the distributor's letter.

Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, 'Varisu' features Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, with Sarathkumar, Jayasudha, Yogi Babu, Srikanth, Sham, and Prakash Raj, among others, in important roles. Vijay's 'Varisu' clashed with Ajith's 'Thunivu' at the box office, and the box office rivals had a same-day release after 9 years.
