Director R Selvaraj, who has earlier worked with Barathiraaja and Mani Ratnam as a writer, has come up with Pachai Kudai, which talks about the importance of trees. While Ilaiyaraaja has done the rerecording without taking any remuneration, Barathiraaja has given the voice over for the film. Talking to CT, Selvaraj says, 'Surabalar, a rishi who lived 2000 years ago, wrote about the importance of green cover in his Viruksha Ayurveda.
I was also influenced by a Nigerian folk tale on how the God decided to stay in the trees until the tribals built a house for themselves. But, preaching about the ill effects of cutting trees would make Pachai Kudai like a documentary. So, I decided to weave a love story into it. Nithya Das plays a tribal woman who falls in love with a guy who enters their forest to cut trees. The film is all about how she manages to convince him not to cut them.'
Selvaraj is set to screen the film for Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. 'After that, I will screen it to our President. The film will be sold to TV channels in all the 120 countries that's under the UN. The film will be sent to all the panoramas as well,' he reveals.
