The 20th edition of the Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) is all set to be held in Chennai from December 15 to 22. The festival will see 107 films from 48 countries, including Oscar nominated films, being screened over one week.
CIFF also has an 'in competition' section, for which Tamil movies are eligible. Every year, 12 Tamil films are chosen for this category, with three out of those films being awarded as the best films.

Today, the organisers of the fest had met the press to announce details about this year's edition of CIFF and also reveal the 12 films that have been selected for the in competition section. The 12 Tamil films that have been chosen this year include Gautham Ramachandran's Gargi, starring Sai Pallavi, Pa Ranjith romance drama Natchathiram Nagargiradhu, Radhakrishnan Parthiban's single-shot film Iravin Nizhal, Seenu Ramasamy's film with Vijay Sethupathi Maamanithan, Ramnath Palanikumar's Aadhaar, featuring Karunas in the lead role, Chimbu Deven's anthology Kasadathapara, Ashok Veerappan's Buffoon, starring Vaibhav, Mano Ve Kannathasan's murder mystery Irudhi Pakkam, and Nayanthara-led O2, directed by GS Viknesh.
Three yet-to-be released Tamil films — Beginning, Yuddha Kaandam, and Goat — are also part of the official selection, and will compete for the Best Film honours.
