Rajinikanth, who started off with the Tamil film ‘Apoorva Raagangal’ in 1975 has emerged as on icon. Though he began his journey playing supporting roles, his screen presence was noticed by many in the industry. A film which became a turning point in his career was when he was offered to play a crucial role in the film ‘Bhairavi’ in 1975. But did you know that Rajinikanth demanded a whopping Rs 50 thousand for the role! Yes, that’s right.

In an earlier event the superstar divulged, “I never wanted to become a hero. I was content playing villain roles. From a bus conductor turning an actor itself was a big thing for me. I was happy with a scooter, and aimed then to buy a small flat. However, when Kalaignanam sir approached me with an offer 41 years back, I didn’t want to accept it. I thought it was a villain role and informed him that my schedule was tight. In order to intimidate him, I demanded a salary of Rs 50 thousand (was getting much less as a villain then) thinking he would not come back to me again. But to my surprise, he came back with the advance of five thousand the next day and signed me for Bhairavi.”


‘Bhairavi’definetly changed the trajectory of Rajinikanth’s career. In his acting career, spanning over four decades, he has been featured in over 170 films, predominantly in Tamil cinema, and has earned a colossal fan following worldwide.
