Richie actor Nivin Pauly had applied for the audition of Vineeth Sreenivasan's directorial debut Malarvaadi Arts Club in 2009, and was selected to play one of the main roles. The film was produced by actor Dileep. However, he was not among one of the shortlisted actors and was roped in after one actor opted out of the film.
