Released in 2001, ‘Kasi’ is the Tamil remake of the award-winning Malayalam film ‘Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum’. Vikram played the role of a blind man in the film. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the actor revealed that for two to three months after filming, he was unable to see properly. He revealed that this condition arose because he kept his eyelids raised throughout the shoot, a method he employed to convincingly portray his character’s blindness. Vikram stated that the strain put him at risk of developing a squint eye.

Directed by Vinayan, ‘Kasi’ also featured Kavya Madhavan, Kaveri, Manivannan, and Thalaivasal Vijay in the lead roles.

Meanwhile, Vikram’s latest release ‘Thangalaan’ has received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. Directed by Pa Ranjith, ‘Thangalaan’ also features Malavika Mohanan, and Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead roles. ETimes rated the film 4.5 out of 5 and the review reads, “With Thangalaan, Pa Ranjith crafts a stunning spectacle on human greed, societal oppression, and self-assertion. The film often feels like a psychedelic trip through pages of history, and Ranjith, through the story of Thangalaan (a fantastic Vikram, who delivers a beast of a performance that is full of fury and fear), takes us from the 18th century onwards all the way back to 5 BCE.”
