The film has garnered an estimated Rs 7.54 crore domestically and Rs 8.8 crore worldwide, facing a mixed reception and low theatrical occupancy.
Karthi’s latest release ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’, which hit the big screens on January 14, has been raking in decent numbers at the box office. However, within a week of its release, the film has gradually been falling behind, with the latest estimates suggesting that it made just over Rs 54 lakh on Sunday.As per trade analyst Sacnilk, the movie on its opening day made over Rs 1.65 crore and later saw collections rise to Rs 2.35 crore on its second day. It was anticipated that the film would then see around the same numbers as the week would progress; however, on day 3, the film earned just around Rs 1.55 crore. Later on day 4, the film collected Rs 1.45 crore and on Sunday, the film seems to have failed to make it past the Rs 1 crore mark, earning just around Rs 54 lakh. The film’s total collections stand at an estimated Rs 7.54 crore.The film has also earned a decent worldwide collection of Rs 8.8 crore.

Theatrical occupancy

‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ had an overall 13.93% Tamil Occupancy on Sunday. It recorded the lowest occupancy in the morning at around 7.83%. Later, it peaked to 18.33% during afternoon screenings and saw a gradual decline to 17.34% for evening shows and 12.21% for its night shows.

About ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’

Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the movie is an action comedy which shows Karthi in a dual role.
The plot revolves around Ramu, played by Karthi, who was born on the day MGR died. This makes his grandfather, a devoted fan, believe he is MGR's reincarnation and raise him on ideals of justice and public service. The movie had a mixed response upon its release.
