The Great Indian Kitchen Movie Review: Some things are better left untouched, they say. But then, it can't be true every single time. When your intention is right and you want to tell an extraordinary story that you have come across, there's nothing that could stop you. The Great Indian Kitchen, the remake of the hit Malayalam film of the same name, is one such tale that needs to be told and retold. It's a film that subtly exposes patriarchal men in every single household, among us.

They take us into the world of many women who do household chores every single day to satisfy the alpha males.

The film kicks off with the wedding of a woman (Aishwarya Rajesh) with dreams. She marries a sociology teacher who firmly believes that the tag 'Kudumba Thalaivar' belongs to men even if they don't satisfy the economic needs of the family. And that's what he preaches to his students as well. As she tries to get accustomed to the family of men with such attitudes, her mother-in-law's absence for a few months makes her life more difficult.

She struggles to keep up with their family's traditions and routine household chores. Will she continue to stay there or take a drastic decision that puts her family members in shock?

Though the plot seems simple, the struggles that the central character is subjected to keep us on the edge. We don't need any real conflicts here, as a woman spending her entire life in the kitchen itself is a conflict that needs to be addressed. Every ten minutes of the film we get to see Aishwarya Rajesh washing utensils and cleaning sinks, but that doesn't bore you in any case. After all, these are the kinds of sights that most of us miss in our daily lives.

Rahul Ravindran plays a chauvinistic and self-centered man, and he has delivered his best. Though he struggles a bit to emote in a few crucial moments, he has managed to engage the viewers with his antics. The only disappointment is the climactic sequence, as it ends quite abruptly. It would have been really effective if the staging of those sequences had been organic and had some depth. Given that the duration of the film is only 95 minutes, the director could have added a couple of sequences for the viewers to feel her pain and liberation.

With her powerful performance, Aishwarya Rajesh holds the entire film together. The character is tailor-made for her, and it's undoubtedly one of the best in her career. Yogi Babu's cameo appearance is a surprise element, and it provides us some relief. More than the background score, the cinematography has really helped elevate certain portions to another level.

The Great Indian Kitchen has stayed true to its original, and we have nothing to complain about its execution.
