Sotta Sotta Nanaiyuthu Movie Review: Sotta Sotta Nanaiyuthu is what happens when relatability is applied like hair oil and never washed off. The film takes a flimsy but workable premise and buries it under content-chasing noise. Raja (Nishanth Russo), a man from Karaikudi, anxious about his baldness, blows up his upcoming marriage to Priya (Shaalini) after a dubious video sows doubt. He resurfaces from Chennai with suspiciously lush hair, finds a more extroverted partner Shruthi (Varshini Venkat) who lives for social media, and lets his hurt ego drive a petty one-upmanship arc. The truth about that video sits in plain sight while his buddies scramble to stop a second, doomed wedding.

Sotta Sotta’s problem is not necessarily the idea. You can make a sharp comedy from something as everyday as male pattern baldness. The problem is the writing, which works top-down. Instead of building characters and letting jokes bloom from situations, the film keeps inserting relatability like widgets: WhatsApp remedy gags for hair growth that run on and on, arranged-marriage routines, generational one-liners, influencer bits that feel like skits. It is low on laughs and high on notifications.

The second half doubles down on the social media track between Raja and Shruthi, and the feed-fatigue sets in quick. Jokes arrive pre-chewed, the rhythm is stop-start, and scenes feel engineered to feel in vogue rather than move a story forward. Movies that feature too much social media seem destined to be unwatchable. To his credit, Nishanth Russo commits fully to his character. Dependable comic hands like Anand Pandi, Robo Shankar and Pugazh cannot salvage stretches that play like outtakes from a trend compilation.

There is occasional spark in the core conflict of insecurity curdling into spite. But the stakes stay cartoonish and the arc resolves exactly as you expect once friends start explaining things. Sotta Sotta wants to be relatable. It forgets that a good narrative and characters come before platforms.
