Manidhargal Movie Review: Some hangovers are worse than others, but rarely do they involve finding your friend's corpse and spending the next 106 minutes in a state of perpetual, ear-splitting panic. Manidhargal follows five intoxicated friends (Mano, Karli, Deepan, Satish, and the insufferably weepy Chandru) who wake up to discover their buddy Prem dead. They then proceed to weep, moan, and hyperventilate their way through what should be a tense thriller but instead feels like being trapped in a car with five toddlers having simultaneous meltdowns.

The film's central flaw is its characters' stubborn refusal to sober up even slightly when faced with a dead body. Adrenaline typically cuts through alcohol-induced fog, yet these five remain perpetually plastered, making increasingly baffling decisions. Why not simply bury the body then and there? That would end the film in half an hour, which wouldn't have been such a bad thing. The premise's flimsy logic becomes impossible to ignore.

Director Raam Indhra loads his cast with actors who look like small-time thugs, yet they react to their predicament with the emotional fortitude of frightened children. Without any meaningful characterization, their non-stop wailing becomes insufferable rather than sympathetic. Road movie tropes pile up predictably: near-accidents, fuel shortages, paranoid phone calls, while the overacting reaches seizure-inducing levels.

Manidhargal proves that sometimes the real crime is subjecting audiences to 106 minutes of unrelenting histrionics.
