Demon Movie Synopsis: An aspiring filmmaker rents an abandoned apartment in the city to work on his script. The events that occur there make him discover some dark secrets inside the building.

Demon Movie Review: Why do most of the horror genre films down south want their protagonists to experience spooky events only after shifting their base to a new home or a bungalow? Ramesh Palaniivel's latest flick, Demon, is no different. Though the filmmaker has tried hard to present it as an experimental psychological horror drama, repetitive events and uninteresting jump scares make Demon a very average watch.

Vignesh Shivan (Sachin) is introduced to us as an aspiring filmmaker who wants to make a spine-chilling horror film. He even gets a producer for his debut film and moves to a new flat in the middle of the city, where he decides to work in peace. He also falls in love with a girl (Abarnathi) and decides to marry her after seeking permission from both their parents.

Trouble begins when Vignesh starts experiencing weird dreams every night. This not only makes him sleep-deprived but also gives him the fear of staying amidst the dead. Is he affected psychologically, or is there a bigger mystery inside the apartment that has been kept a secret for years?

The biggest drawback of Demon is that the director, Ramesh, takes a lot of time to unveil the secrets of the house that Vignesh stays in. The horror elements, especially the backstory of the ghost, come at the end of the film, making the viewers a bit restless. Also, the jump scares and the spooky events are only redundant, and none of the scenes are scary enough for us to enjoy this genre. However, the flashback sequences in the pre-climax are quite interesting, but again, seem to be slightly inspired by the shocking Burari death event.

If the makers had revealed a few aspects of this story in the initial sequences instead of keeping it a secret till the end, they would have had some opportunity to create proper scary moments every now and then.

Abarnathi's love sequences with Sachin are engaging, and we wish the film could have been a romantic drama rather than a horror thriller. The technical aspects of the film are average, perhaps due to budget constraints.

Demon tries too hard to be different from other horror films that we have witnessed over the years, but ends up being the same.
