Pahlaj Nihalani’s Rangeela Raja is a situational comedy starring Govinda
Govinda starrer Rangeela Raja marks the return of Pahlaj Nihalani on the director’s chair. This is his first film after his tenure as the chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ended. Bollywood’s favourite Govinda can be seen in a double role in the out-and-out comedy. The movie is about two brothers who have distinctly different lifestyles, as one leads his life as a family man while the other leads the life of a Yogi. The story takes turn when the latter decides to bring his brother’s life back on track. Rangeela Raja happens to be the fourth film in collaboration between Pahlaj and Govinda. The duo previously teamed up for movies like Ilzaam (1986), followed by Shola Aur Shabnam (1992) and Aankhen (1993). Rangeela Raja is all set to open in cinemas on January 18.
Talking about the film, Pahlaj says, “Govind and I have a great understanding. We are always on the same page as far as the story, music and other elements of the film are concerned. Govinda has always delivered great performances in my films. He has done the same with Rangeela Raja. It’s unique. We’ve also stayed true to our tradition — I’ve always cast fresh faces opposite him. Neelam, Divya Bharti, Ritu Shivpuri and now, there’s Mishika Chourasia. I hope that the audience appreciates our effort.”
As for Govinda, the actor says, “Pahlajji and I have shared a great working relationship for years now. He turned me into a dancing sensation, an action hero and also tapped into my comical sensibilities. After working with him, I’ve never really looked behind. I have entertained people with family films and our new film together is also an entertainer that everyone can enjoy. There’s something for everyone.”

The movie marks the debut of newcomer Mishika Chourasia, who is paired opposite Govinda in the film. She is all praise for the producer and her co-star. “I am overwhelmed. It’s a dream debut. What started off as a casual meeting with Pahlaj sir turned into a journey that will be an inseparable part of my life. It was my dream to be an actor, but I didn’t know yeh kabhi hoga ya nahi. I was lucky that my dreams came true. Working with Govinda has been an inspiring experience. He didn’t treat me like a newbie. He rehearsed our first scene together and we filmed it in one take. Pahlajji also supported me in a big way and today, I’m ready to start my journey in Bollywood on a good note.”
